Backend Development Services

The engine room behind every reliable product.

If the frontend is the body of your application, the backend is its brain. mVerve designs, builds and modernises the server side of your product: APIs, business logic, data models, integrations and the cloud infrastructure that keeps all of it running.

The nerve centre of your application

Backend work decides whether the product holds up.

Backend development is the binding force of an application. It controls what happens on the server, whether on premise or in the cloud, constantly receiving inputs from the frontend, processing data, enforcing business rules and returning results while keeping everything well harmonised.

It covers writing, optimising and deploying intricate server side code: API layers, authentication, queues and jobs, reporting pipelines, integrations with CRM, ERP and payment platforms, and the data model that all of it depends on.

mVerve builds these systems for enterprises and funded product teams. We are deliberate about architecture, honest about trade offs, and we leave behind documentation and tests so your own engineers can carry the system forward.

Our backend services

From first endpoint to steady state operations.

01

API development

REST and GraphQL APIs with versioning, pagination, rate limiting and documentation your consumers can actually use.

02

Microservices architecture

Service boundaries drawn around business capabilities, with messaging, retries and observability built in.

03

Database design

Schema modelling, migrations, indexing and query optimisation for relational and document stores.

04

Cloud and DevOps

AWS, Azure and GCP deployments with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines and autoscaling.

05

Legacy modernisation

Strangle monoliths into services incrementally, keeping the business running through every step.

06

Third party integrations

Payments, CRM, ERP, logistics and messaging platforms wired together with resilient contracts.

07

Security and compliance

Authentication, authorisation, encryption at rest and in transit, audit trails and least privilege access.

08

Performance engineering

Load testing, caching layers, query tuning and capacity planning against real traffic patterns.

Technologies we use

A stack chosen for your workload and your team.

Node.js Java and Spring Python .NET PHP and Laravel PostgreSQL and MySQL MongoDB and Redis TypeScript

Node.js

Event driven services and real time APIs on a runtime built for high concurrency workloads.

Java and Spring

Enterprise grade services where transaction integrity, tooling and long term support matter.

Python

Django and FastAPI services for data heavy products, automation and AI backed features.

.NET

C# services that fit neatly into Microsoft centric estates and Azure hosting.

PHP and Laravel

Pragmatic, fast to ship backends for content, commerce and portal workloads.

PostgreSQL and MySQL

Relational schemas, indexing strategies and query tuning done by people who read execution plans.

MongoDB and Redis

Document stores and caching layers where flexible shapes or sub millisecond reads are the requirement.

TypeScript

Shared types across API and client so contracts break at build time, not in production.

Why mVerve

Engineers who think about the third year, not just the first release.

Systems that stay understandable, affordable and safe to change long after launch.

Architecture first

Every engagement starts with a written architecture note covering data flow, failure modes and scaling limits before code begins.

Built to be handed over

Readable code, automated tests, runbooks and diagrams so your in house team can take ownership whenever they choose.

Observability by default

Structured logs, metrics and traces from the first sprint, so production questions have answers in minutes.

Cost aware engineering

Right sized instances, sensible caching and query discipline keep your monthly cloud bill defensible.

Security reviewed

Threat modelling, dependency scanning and secret management reviewed by our cyber security practice.

Support after launch

SLA backed maintenance, on call rotations and quarterly health checks for the systems we build.

How the work runs

A delivery rhythm you can plan around.

Talk through your roadmap
01

Discover

Workshops to map processes, systems and the outcome you are measured on.

02

Design

Solution blueprint, data model and delivery plan agreed before we build.

03

Build

Two week sprints with working software and a demo at the end of each one.

04

Launch

Migration, UAT, enablement and a cutover plan your teams can rehearse.

05

Support

Managed support, enhancements and quarterly roadmap reviews.

How we work

Assess. Design. Build. Operate.

01

Assess

Review current systems, data volumes, integrations and pain points, then agree the target architecture and non functional requirements.

02

Design

Define service boundaries, data models, API contracts and deployment topology, reviewed with your engineering leads.

03

Build

Iterative delivery with automated tests, code review, CI/CD and a working environment from the first sprint.

04

Operate

Load testing, observability, runbooks and knowledge transfer, followed by ongoing support and tuning.

Business outcomes

What our backend engagements deliver.

Predictable performance

Response times that hold steady through peak load instead of degrading quietly.

Faster releases

Automated pipelines and test coverage cut the distance between merge and production.

Lower running cost

Efficient queries and right sized infrastructure reduce spend without risking headroom.

Room to grow

Service boundaries and data models that absorb new products instead of blocking them.

“The mVerve team rebuilt our integration layer without a single day of downtime. Orders that used to sit in a queue for hours now reach the plant floor in seconds, and we finally have visibility when something fails.”
Brad Gill

How we work

Three commitments on every engagement.

Measured outcomes

Every engagement starts with the metric that has to move and reports against it.

Built to audit

Security, access control and documentation handled as part of delivery, not after.

AI where it pays

Automation and models applied to the steps that actually cost your teams time.

Engagement models

Pick the shape of team that fits your plan.

Fixed scope build Dedicated team Managed support

Some clients come to us with a defined outcome: an API platform, a migration off a legacy database, an integration between ERP and commerce. For those we scope the work, fix the milestones and deliver against them.

Others need capacity. We place senior backend engineers inside your existing team, working your sprints and your standards, with our architects available for review when a decision needs a second opinion.

Once a system is live we can keep it healthy: monitoring, patching, dependency upgrades, incident response and quarterly performance reviews under an agreed service level.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Still weighing a stack, a rebuild or a team shape? Tell us the context and we will give you a straight answer.

Talk to a backend engineer
Which backend stack should we choose?

It depends on your team and workload. Node.js suits real time and API heavy products, Java fits transaction critical enterprise systems, Python works well for data and AI features, and .NET is the natural pick inside Microsoft estates. We recommend based on your hiring plan as much as the technology.

Can you work with our existing backend?

Yes. Most of our engagements start with an existing system. We review the codebase and data model, agree the highest value changes, and improve it incrementally rather than proposing a rewrite by default.

Do you handle cloud infrastructure and deployment?

We do. Infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, environment strategy, monitoring and alerting are part of the engagement on AWS, Azure or GCP.

How do you keep our data secure?

Least privilege access, encrypted storage and transport, managed secrets, dependency scanning and audit logging. Our cyber security team reviews the design and runs vulnerability assessment before go live.

How long does a backend engagement take?

A focused API or integration build usually runs 6 to 10 weeks. A platform rebuild or monolith decomposition typically spans 4 to 8 months, delivered in phases with something usable at the end of each one.

Can you provide dedicated backend engineers?

Yes. You can engage a full delivery team or add senior backend engineers to your existing team through our staff augmentation practice.
